What Can You Discover From an IP Address?
Every IP address carries a rich set of information. Our lookup tool surfaces all of it in one place.
Location & Geolocation
Country, region, city, postal code, and precise latitude/longitude coordinates plotted on an interactive map.
Network & ISP Details
The ISP or hosting provider name, Autonomous System Number (ASN), and the CIDR route block the IP belongs to.
Security & Threat Flags
VPN, proxy, Tor exit node, datacenter, known abuser, known attacker, and iCloud Private Relay detection flags.
Timezone & Regional Info
Local time, UTC offset, DST status, official country languages, and the local currency with code and symbol.
Who Uses IP Lookup Tools?
From cybersecurity professionals to everyday users, IPDSN is built for anyone who needs fast, accurate IP intelligence.
Security Researchers
Investigate suspicious traffic, identify the source of attacks, verify whether an IP belongs to a known threat actor or botnet, and check blocklist status.
Developers & Engineers
Test geolocation-dependent features, debug network routing issues, verify CDN and DNS configurations, or check that geo-targeting rules work as intended.
Businesses & Fraud Prevention
Verify whether inbound traffic originates from a VPN, proxy, Tor exit node, or datacenter to inform access control, fraud scoring, and compliance decisions.
Privacy-Conscious Users
Understand what information your IP address reveals to every website you visit β location, ISP, and whether you are correctly masked by a VPN or proxy.
What is an IP Address?
An IP (Internet Protocol) address is a unique numerical label assigned to every device connected to the internet. It serves two purposes: identifying the device and indicating its approximate location in the network. Every time you load a webpage, send an email, or stream a video, IP addresses are used to route data between your device and the destination server.
There are two versions in use today. IPv4 addresses look like 192.168.1.1 and were the original standard, but their pool of ~4.3 billion addresses is now exhausted. IPv6 addresses look like 2001:db8::1 and provide a practically unlimited supply to accommodate the growth of the modern internet.
Your IP address can reveal your approximate location (city level), your internet service provider, and whether you are using a VPN, proxy, or Tor. It does not expose your name, home address, or browsing history β that level of detail requires legal process served to your ISP.
Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is IP geolocation? βΌ
Country-level accuracy is close to 100%. City-level accuracy is roughly 80% for residential IPv4 connections. Mobile users, VPN users, and anyone behind carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT) will see the location of their carrier's or VPN's infrastructure rather than their physical address.
Can someone find my home address from my IP? βΌ
No. An IP address can reveal your approximate city or region, but not your street address or identity. Pinpointing a specific subscriber requires a legal request (subpoena) served to your ISP, which keeps internal records linking IPs to accounts.
What is an ASN? βΌ
An Autonomous System Number (ASN) is a globally unique identifier assigned to each large network β ISPs, cloud providers, and universities each operate one or more. The ASN shown in our results tells you which organization owns the IP address block your lookup falls within.
Why does my IP show the wrong location? βΌ
IP geolocation reflects where your ISP's infrastructure is registered, not necessarily where you are sitting. VPN users see their VPN server's location. Mobile users may see a city hundreds of miles away if their carrier routes traffic through a distant hub. This is a known limitation of IP-based location β it is approximate, not precise.
Does IPDSN store my IP address? βΌ
No. We do not log or store the IP addresses you look up. Lookups are processed server-side and the results are returned directly to your browser. No account or registration is required.
